TechnoRetro Dads

Greetings, Programs!

What did you get for Christmas?  We loaded up (like we do every year) and had lots of fun.  But not just at Christmas time -- we have had a great year in 2013.  We take some time to revisit what happened in 2013 and reveal some of our expectations for 2014, and while everything has not been all shiny this year, we have high hopes for the year to come.

We also talk about the upcoming Annie Awards and the categories and nominees in our News segment.  In the History Lesson, we turn back the clock to the week after Christmas in the 70s and 80s to see what was going on while we were playing with the Star Wars toys Santa brought us back then.

The final results of the first season of the TechnoRetro Bowl are in and we celebrate the lopsided victory of an undefeated team.  Congratulations to Craig!

As the little one with the great big ears would say in that famous Rankin/Bass special.... “Happy New Year!”

Greetings, Programs!

Quick -- before Christmas actually gets here and it seems like it may be kind of weird to watch it -- check out A Charlie Brown Christmas.  JediShua and shazbazzar sat down with their families to watch the special that started it all as they wrap up a three-month trilogy of Peanuts specials just in time for Christmas.

We also climb up in our attics to pull out some dusty memories of toys of Christmases past as well as delve into some newsy items dig up data from the 70s and 80s about  computers and even a look at the future from the perspective of the past (1974, to be precise).

With just over a week before 2013 concludes, you can still plug in your ear buds to TechnoRetro Dads.

Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas!

Shake off the Humbugs and get UNSCROOGED in this Christmas Music Spectacular!  Since music is such an intrinsic part of the holiday season and makes for great memories, we thought we’d share some of our favorites of years gone by as well as some new things we’ve added to our holiday playlist.

As a bonus feature of this episode, we called up Bob Brown for a chat about his song, “Santa, Bring Me a Dinosaur”, a fun little ditty from Down Under.

Plug this one into the car as your traveling or play it on the home stereo.  You’ll enjoy hearing these tunes over and over and over again.

Greetings, Programs!

Each year around this time, we used to sit around and dream about what we wanted for Christmas...

What I want is a Red Ryder BB gun with a compass in the stock and this thing which tells time.  I think that everybody should have a Red Ryder BB gun. They're very good for Christmas. I don't think that a football's a very good Christmas present.

Whether you want a major award, a nightmarish pink bunny suit, a Chinese turkey from Bo Ling, or just want to finally win against Scud Farkis, this episode of TechnoRetro Dads will certainly satisfy your cravings.

Be careful what you wish for, you just might get a mouthful of Lifebuoy.

This week, we watch Miracle on 34th Street in the Family Circle, rediscover some Toys in the Attic from Christmas past, as well as keep track of News and History Lessons.  Grab your earbuds and join us for 80 minutes this week!

The “Name that Tune” contest has a winner with two out of three segment themes being guessed by our friend and longtime podcaster, WOMP.  Congratulations!  But you still have an opportunity to guess the “NEWS” segment theme and/or band if you want to be a winner, too, so send in your best guess to podcast@TechnoRetroDads.com.

With some wonky randomness, debate on the nicknames of Bill Gates and Bill Watterson, reverse-image promo posters, and the introduction of the hoverboard in 1989, join shazbazzar and JediShua on a trip back and forth through time on this week’s episode of TechnoRetro Dads.  (And be sure to leave us a great review on iTunes, as well.  We really do appreciate it!)

With a bit of a chill in the air and the leaves leaving their branches for a spot on the lawn, memories get revived as we head into the holiday season (even if shaz has some confusion in his memories).  Before you get into your work week, take a bit of a break with TechnoRetro Dads in this special episode remembering The Star Wars Holiday Special as we prepare for the 35th anniversary of the one-time showing on CBS.

Our good friend Jorbex stops by for a chat about an old podcast prank, SKot from StarWarsHolidaySpecial.com tells us about his memories of the Holiday Special, and Paul Bateman from the Star Wars Influences podcast on ShotGlass Digital reveals some interesting information about how Ralph McQuarrie got involved in one of the most hyped parts of that galaxy far, far away.

Remember watching The Dark Crystal for the first time?  JediShua and shazbazzar talk about this strange and somewhat creepy muppet movie from 1982 and agree that it only gets better with repeated viewings!

This week on TechnoRetro Dads, the anticipation for TR3N grows as Joseph Kosinski reveals some information about the sequel to TRON:Legacy.  We also find out about a remake of Disney's first excursion into science fiction movies, The Black Hole.  Find out where Star Wars in a more primitive form can be seen.

Apple computers, Atari computers, and the very popular uBanana phone round out a raucous recollection of historical facts and flubs from the 70s and 80s.

Even if you're not techno, retro, or even a dad, there's something on this episode for everyone who likes stuff.

Enjoy....

Greetings, Programs!

What is a TechnoRetro Dad?  JediShua and shazbazzar explain it all in this initial episode of TechnoRetro Dads.  With Star Wars and other retro-franchise news, getting their families together to experience Willow, and some neat facts in a History Lesson, the Dads take their first step into their weekly podcasting endeavor.

Join shazbazzar and JediShua each week as they remember what it was like to be a kid in the 70s and 80s, taking the best of their youth and sharing their experiences and making new memories with their own families.
