It’s a collection of 29 spooky stories that was featured in Hitchcock’s magazine. So much fun to remember old scares. Jay and his wife Enjoyed some local, autumn celebrations with giant steins from Oktoberfest. Lots to do as our Earth orbits through the fall.

Enjoy Haunted Houses! Welcome foolish Earbuds! We will take you on a tour of Haunted Houses from movies, TV, and the real world. What is it about an old spooky house that is falling apart, and making mysterious noises…and people died there that scares us so much? Maybe there’s no rational explanation, but it sure is fun. There have been countless stories for generations that get our blood flowing and our heart racing fast.
But movies and TV aren’t the only place you can get frightened of a casa. There are real life ones that you can visit to hear histories of horror such as the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, Colorado or the Winchester Mystery House in San Jose, California.
And of course the classic haunted houses in theme parks such as the Haunted Mansion in several Disney Parks and others across the globe.

It's time to space out with an episode featuring songs about space! Jay and Shua list some of their favorites on a cosmic episode of Enjoy Stuff.
Humans have always been fascinated by the cosmos. And when popular artists were recording in the space race era, they jumped on the bandrocket and a new era began. Do your favorites make our list? Let’s find out.

What we’re Enjoying After the premiere of Agatha All Along on Disney+, Jay jumped headfirst into another Witches’ Road. He watched The Wizard of Oz for the first time in years. Turns out it’s still a good movie and really quite creepy. It’s easy to find and a definite classic you should revisit (or check out for the first time) Shua and his wife ventured out to a movie night at the Alamo. Without many expectations, they were pleasantly surprised by the newest animated interpretation of a classic toy, Transformers One. With a good story, an all-star cast, and great animation, it really put everything together in an entertaining way.
Enjoy Music! We love our space songs. Not soundtracks from sci-fi (although those are great too) but songs that artists have written specifically about space. This week we examine some of our favorites throughout history. From Lounge to Classic Rock, there is no shortage of cosmic music that you can use to imagine you are peacefully (or dramatically) floating through the starscape. Songs we include are: The Planets - Gustav Holst 2000 Light Years from Home - The Rolling Stones Fly Me to the Moon - Frank Sinatra Cygnus X-1 - Rush Starman - David Bowie Children of the Sun - Billy Thorpe Rocket Man - Elton John Slime Creatures from Outer Space - Weird Al Flash - Queen Astronaut - Duran Duran Across the Universe - The Beatles Dancing in Heaven (Orbital Be-Bop) - Q-Feel Space Oddity - David Bowie Countdown - Rush Space Invaders - Uncle Vic Major Tom (Coming Home) - Peter Schilling Interplanet Janet - SchoolHouse Rock Intergalactic - Beastie Boys The Galaxy Song - Monty Python’s Meaning of Life Space Cowboy - Steve Miller Walking on the Moon - The Police Major Tom (Coming Home) - William Shatner Space Oddity - Astronaut Chris Hadfield from the International Space Station Eep Op Ork Ah Ah- Jett Screamer

Growing up we loved to experience edgy comedy without getting too edgy ourselves. That's why Cheech and Chong were so popular to us. So come on a journey of nice dreams and Enjoy Stuff!
On this 4th season and 20th episode of Enjoy Stuff we look back at two ‘buds’ that have been making people laugh for years. Cheech and Chong!
News Ewan MacGregor gets a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame Brian May recovering from a stroke, but celebrates his recovery by opening a new Queen album The Time Bandits reboot has been cancelled after only one season

What we’re Enjoying Shua jumped head first into the pile of bricks that is LEGO Star Wars Rebuilding the Galaxy. He can give it his recommendation as a fun Star Wars story and a fun LEGO parody. There’s some fun new characters that you’ll grow to enjoy and some great cameos from Star Wars favorites. Check it out on Disney+. Jay is enjoying the second season of Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. It has a more epic feel and is giving a very entertaining interpretation of Tolkien’s Middle Earth backstory of the origin of the rings and of Sauron.
Enjoy Movies! Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong met in Vancouver, British Columbia in 1969, and started a friendship that lasts to today. They found they had a similar sense of humor and began improv together. They expanded to opening for others, and eventually headlining large venues. Their movies aren’t deep, and often centered around infantile and drug humor, but it influenced a lot of people and set us on the path of understanding…well, a little. We still don’t understand the Corsican Brothers. Whether you loved them or hated them, they have been an important part of our culture and the comedy world.
What’s your opinion on Cheech and Chong? Where’s dave? First person that emails me with the subject line, “Dave’s not here” will get a special mention on the show. Let us know. Come talk to us in the Discord channel or send us an email to EnjoyStuff@RetroZap.com |

What we’re Enjoying Jay did a rewatch of Ted Lasso season 3 and was reminded how incredible this show really was. With rumors of a season 4 possible, now’s a great time to go back and check out the jokes and the heart of the show starring Jason Sudeikis and a variety of very talented actors. Ted Lasso can be found on AppleTV+. Shua is enjoying the new season of Only Murders in the Building starring Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez. He’s not surprised that it’s good, but it’s been especially touching this season and still hysterical. Only Murders in the Building is on Hulu.
Enjoy Movies! Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice is a sequel 36 years in the making. Opinions seem to be varied on how enjoyable it is. But we are going to take a look at the positive aspects of checking it out. We’ll start off by looking back at our experiences from the original. What did we think of it back then? Why was it so popular? We’ll analyze our feelings from all those years ago. Then we’ll look at everything that came after, such as the animated series and the video games. Then we’ll discuss what’s to like about the sequel.
Have you seen Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice? Was it worth the wait? First person that emails me with the subject line, “The Juice is Loose” will get a special mention on the show. Let us know. Come talk to us in the Discord channel or send us an email to EnjoyStuff@RetroZap.com

What we’re Enjoying Shua seems to be overcoming his avoidance of scary movies. He watched A Quiet Place: Day One with Lupita Nyong’o and Joseph Quinn. It was an intense addition to the franchise and gives us a terrifying origin story for our planet’s downfall. Jay is spending some of the waning summer days playing disc golf with his son. A cheap and easy activity that is lots of fun and gets you moving outside. Check your area for some disc golf courses, or just make your own.
Enjoy Life! For many years our culture has put a stigma on the simple and natural truth that a person’s head can be bald. Both men and women alike are susceptible to losing their hair in a variety of different ways. But we here at Enjoy Stuff are here to pull you into the worldwide celebration of Bald is Beautiful Day! BIBD was created by John Capps from Moorehead City, NC. (I’m not kidding!) John started the Bald Headed Men's Convention over 50 years ago and the momentum hasn’t slowed down. Revisit the Steve Martin classic All of Me for its 40th anniversary. Jovial Jay and Shua have tons of laughs at this fun retro comedy.
We love Steve Martin. And that’s why we had such a good time rewatching All of Me. Tune in to Enjoy Stuff to hear all about this 1984 Carl Reiner film.

What we’re Enjoying Greedy people may annoy all of us, but they make for an entertaining movie. Jay enjoyed the Joseph Gordon Levitt dark comedy Greedy People. It has a lot of twists and unexpected surprises that keep you entertained. So be prepared for an unexpected ending. Shua revisited the 1979 new beginning for a franchise. Star Trek - The Motion Picture may not be the best Trek film, but it has it’s merits, and it kept the universe alive.
Sci-Fi Saturdays This week on Sci-Fi Saturdays Jay reluctantly added the 2007 adaptation of the much loved 80s cartoon Transformers. This Michael Bay film was definitely a spectacle, but could it live up with our expectations? It depends who you ask, but either way, Jay breaks it down and gives his analysis on Sci-Fi Saturdays. Read his article on RetroZap.com. And make sure to play around with the interactive map on MCULocationScout.com. There are some new locations from Agents of SHIELD season 3. Plus, you can tune in to SHIELD: Case Files where Jay and Shua talk about great stuff in the MCU.
Enjoy Movies! 40 years ago Steve Martin’s movie career was really on the rise. He teamed up for the fourth time with Carl Reiner for the “body swap” comedy All of Me with Lily Tomlin. She plays Edwina Cutwater, a very rich woman who is about to die. Instead of coming to terms with it, she has hired a Swami to put her soul into Terry Hoskins, the daughter of Edwina’s stable master Fred. But in a freak accident, she gets put in Steve Martin’s Roger Cobb instead. Now he has to find the Swami to fix it all. It was a fun concept and holds up today. We look back on it all and talk about why we love it.
Have you seen All of Me? Would you swap your soul into another body? First person that emails me with the subject line, “Back in bowl” will get a special mention on the show. Let us know. Come talk to us in the Discord channel or send us an email to EnjoyStuff@RetroZap.com |

What we’re Enjoying In a rare display of bravery, Shua went to see Alien: Romulus. He thought it was a nice addition to the franchise and felt like a sequel to the first one. And there are some fun surprises. Jay decided to check out last year’s Paul Giammati’s character film, The Holdovers. He was pleasantly surprised by the acting and story.
Sci-Fi Saturdays This week on Sci-Fi Saturdays Jay experienced the 2006 anime Paprika for the first time. It was a cool action movie about a dream machine in the vein of Inception and Dreamscape. In the end, he enjoyed it and can recommend it. Read his article on RetroZap.com. And make sure to play around with the interactive map on MCULocationScout.com. There are some new locations from Agents of SHIELD season 3. Plus, you can tune in to SHIELD: Case Files where Jay and Shua talk about great stuff in the MCU.
Enjoy Music! This week we are looking at examples of a “perfect” album. Or at least a side of an album. To us, that’s the kind of album that you can listen to without wanting to skip a track. This is a subjective topic, of course, but we have a nice list of records that we think a lot of people love. Which ones did we pick? What did some of our Discord users pick? Listen to find out.

Jump back 40 years to a classic time travel movie with The Philadelphia Experiment. Jay and Shua reminisce and compare it to another 80s flick on Enjoy Stuff

What we’re Enjoying Jay was reminded of a Michael Keaton movie from earlier this year called Knox Goes Away. It starts off as a movie about an assassin who is looking to get out of the business. But it quickly turns unique when you find out that Keaton’s character has a quickly worsening form of dementia. You can check it out on Apple TV+ or Max. Shua grabbed an old Sci-Fi paperback from his shelf called Earthship and Starsong by Ethan I. Shedley. It never made it into the annals of sci-fi legends, but it is an interesting tale of humans' quest (and selfishness) for survival in the universe. Unfortunately we made enemies of everyone else in the universe. You can find this book on Amazon and other online sources.
Sci-Fi Saturdays This week on Sci-Fi Saturdays Jay has reminded us of a 2006 Hugh Jackman movie called The Fountain. This unique movie tells a similar tale about a doomed couple from different time periods of history, which spans thousands of years. Check out all of Jay’s articles on Sci-Fi Saturdays, only on RetroZap.com. And make sure to play around with the interactive map on MCULocationScout.com. There are some new locations from Agents of SHIELD season 3. Plus, you can tune in to SHIELD: Case Files where Jay and Shua talk about great stuff in the MCU.
Enjoy Movies! 40 years ago, a movie was released that was based on a possibly true story from 40 years before. Michael Pare and Nancy Allen star in the Philadelphia Experiment. Pare and Bobby DiCicco’s characters get flung forward in time to 1984 following a failed Navy experiment in World War II. Their problems weren’t over because they were still connected to the bizarre vortex that sent them there, causing painful outbreaks of electricity. Plus, the scientist who caused the accident, did it again with a whole town. Now Pare has to get back to stop it.
The movie is often compared to another WWII time travel movie called The Final Countdown. In that movie, the time travel happens in reverse, sending the USS Nimitz back to 1941 just before the attack on Pearl Harbor. Which movie did it better? We compare them and explain which one we like the best.
Don’t forget to check out Jay’s SciFi Saturdays articles on The Philadelphia Experiment and

What we’re Enjoying Shua is Enjoying a new late night show starring young comedienne Taylor Tomlinson called After Midnight. It’s a pretend game show where comedians and celebrities answer goofy questions about the internet and modern day goings-on. Clips of the CBS show can be found on YouTube. Jay is watching the new Time Bandits homage created by Taika Waititi. It’s only a few episodes in, so we are reserving judgment. It doesn’t feel exactly like Terry Gilliam’s original, but it is a cute story in it’s own right. You can find Time Bandits on Apple TV+.
Sci-Fi Saturdays This week on Sci-Fi Saturdays Jay feels like he may have watched the movie before. 2006 Deja Vu is a time travel movie with a bit of a different point of view. Denzel Washington investigates a terrorist attack by looking back into the past. Check out all of Jay’s articles on Sci-Fi Saturdays, only on RetroZap.com. What we’re Enjoying Jay took a trip to the other side of the world to Tuscany, Italy. It was a relaxing (yet very hot) trip to the old country to enjoy a little relaxing environment. Shua traveled to Anaheim, California and enjoyed Pixar Fest at Disneyland. They both had great vacations but are happy to be home.
Sci-Fi Saturdays This week on Sci-Fi Saturdays we talk about 3 different sci-fi movies that Jay has analyzed. Idiocracy makes some bold (and sometimes accurate) predictions of the future of our country. The Prestige was a bizarre tale of two competing magicians and a Tesla machine. And Children of Men presented a scary dystopia where there are no new babies in the world and how that is really going to screw us up. Educate yourself and check out all of Jay’s articles on Sci-Fi Saturdays, only on RetroZap.com. And make sure to play around with the interactive map on MCULocationScout.com. There are some new locations from Deadpool 1 and 2 in preparation for the new movie. Plus, you can tune in to SHIELD: Case Files where Jay and Shua talk about great stuff in the MCU.
Enjoy MacGuffins! You’ve probably heard of a MacGuffin, but do you actually know what it is? MacGuffins themselves have been around about as long as stories, but the term originated in the 1920s and was made popular by the master, Alfred Hitchcock himself. While Hitchcock believed that the MacGuffin isn’t important to anyone but the characters in the story, George Lucas believes that it can be a very strong emotional connection to the people enjoying the story.
Which MacGuffin philosophy is stronger to you? What’s your favorite MacGuffin? Let the battle commence! Nothing enhances an action movie quite like two classic characters battling it out! Jay and Shua examine the elegant grace of 'vs' movies!
VS movies! It's like standing in the hallway watching two other kids fighting it out and you're not the one getting in trouble. Hollywood discovered years ago that audiences wondered what it would be like if some of their favorite characters duked it out. Let’s find out!

What we’re Enjoying After writing about Serenity for Sci-Fi Saturdays, Jay couldn’t help going back to check out the 2002 series Firefly. It was such a great idea for a new universe. While we wish we could have gotten more episodes, we are grateful for the ones we have. Shua watched the new Ron Howard documentary about an entertainment icon. Jim Henson: Idea Man laid out the interesting and sometimes disjointed life of the main behind the Muppets. It’s a very enlightening watch.
Sci-Fi Saturdays This week on Sci-Fi Saturdays Jay breaks down the groundbreaking and almost experimental 2006 film A Scanner Darkly. It’s an animated film starring Keanu Reeves, Robert Downey Jr. and several other well-known Hollywood elite. Based on a 1977 novel by Philip K. Dick, it takes place in a dystopian future but has some important messages for us today. Check out the breakdown now. Make sure to play around with the interactive map on MCULocationScout.com. There are some new locations from Deadpool 1 and 2 in preparation for the new movie. Plus, you can tune in to SHIELD: Case Files where Jay and Shua talk about great stuff in the MCU.
Enjoy Movies! In the 1940s, Hollywood had found a strong audience for monster movies. Dracula, Frankenstein, and many more. We also craved our sci-fi attacks. But what if we started pitting some of those creatures against each other? It’s like the classic boxing matches that everyone got excited for.
When Godzilla arrived on screen, it didn’t take long to see how the battles could be even bigger! (pun intended) Those ‘vs’ movies started with him battling another behemoth star named King Kong. The pandora’s box of ‘vs’ ideas had been open and now creators were matching all kinds of characters so that now we have a whole slew of exciting flicks. Jay and Shua generate a random list of characters and try to decide who would win if they made a movie with them.
What vs movies do you like? Which characters would you like to see go toe-to-toe? First person that emails me with the subject line, “In this corner…” will get a special mention on the show. Let us know. Come talk to us in the Discord channel or send us an email to EnjoyStuff@RetroZap.com |

What we’re Enjoying Before Shua Enjoyed his first hurricane in Cancun Mexico, he got the opportunity to swim with dolphins. It was a very cool experience that helped him get in touch with nature. Jay tuned in to the new Beverly Hills Cop movie on Netflix. It did a great job of using some of the things that worked with the originals while modernizing it for today’s audiences.
Sci-Fi Saturdays This week on Sci-Fi Saturdays Jay examined an experimental movie called Aeon Flux. This 2005 Charlize Theron film was based on an animated show, but production problems affected the final outcome after the director was held back from doing what was needed to polish it properly. Still fun to check out. Make sure to play around with the interactive map on MCULocationScout.com. There are some new locations from Deadpool 1 and 2 in preparation for the new movie. Plus, you can tune in to SHIELD: Case Files where Jay and Shua talk about great stuff in the MCU.
Enjoy Science! It’s Shua’s birthday! So we decided to celebrate with one of his passions, SCIENCE! As we were growing up we were so engaged when we encountered science. Whether it was an educational show with Carl Sagan, Beakman, or Bill Nye, or hands-on activities in class we loved to experiment and learn how the world worked.
Then Jay lays down some science trivia to see if Shua can stand by the knowledge he claims to have. And he opens his gifts to start his week of right.

What we’re Enjoying Jay found an old black and white noir film called The Big Combo from 1955. It had some great examples of the mystery movies of the time. And some great performances from a few people you might recognize, such as Lee Van Cleef. Shua has been watching a very retro show on the Shout! Studios YouTube channel called Space: 1999. This was a show, pre-Star Wars that inspired Shua to enjoy sci-fi. You can check it out now, along with some other cool retro shows.
Sci-Fi Saturdays This week on Sci-Fi Saturdays Jay revisits the cinematic story from the Firefly universe. Serenity came out in 2005 in response to fans of the show that wanted more after its untimely cancellation. The movie also successfully tells a story of a fun western/sci-fi hybrid world. Enjoy Movies! This week in the United States is Independence Day. A time for the country to celebrate breaking away from a big empire. So this week we look at some filmmakers that break away from big empires of movie studios to do their own thing and get out a story that they are passionate about.
Well-known directors such as George Lucas, John Carpenter, George Miller, Kevin Smith, and Quentin Tarantino all got their starts by making small, independent movies. Not all filmmakers garnish as much power as these directors. Some remain small, but no less dedicated to their work. So kick up your feet and put on a movie that you may not have heard of before.
Are there independent films you recommend? What makes them enjoyable? First person that emails me with the subject line, “Your loan has been denied” will get a special mention on the show. Let us know. Come talk to us in the Discord channel or send us an email to EnjoyStuff@RetroZap.com

Celebrate 40 years of Ghostbusting as we look back at the anniversaries of the first two movies. Enjoying Stuff makes me feel good!

What we’re Enjoying Shua was not ashamed to bust out the tissues as he watched the latest Pixar story featuring all our crazy emotions in Inside Out 2. It was a really great representation of becoming a teenager and can help people understand what emotions feel like. Jay is enjoying his newly installed built-in cabinets. This isn’t one of those sitting-in-the-middle-of-the-room knock offs. No, these things are built right in there. So next time you need to hide from a pack of furry, toothy, alien critters, these are perfect for you!
Sci-Fi Saturdays This week on Sci-Fi Saturdays Obi-Wan Kenobi trades Coruscant for an island in the 2005 futuristic thriller The Island, starring Ewan McGregor and Scarlett Johansson. Set in a seemingly utopian society, our heroes make a discovery that cranks up the action and suddenly they will have to make their escape. Check it out today! Make sure to play around with the interactive map on MCULocationScout.com. Plus, you can tune in to SHIELD: Case Files where Jay and Shua talk about great stuff in the MCU.
Enjoy Movies! In 1984 Ivan Reitman presented a unique and entertaining comedy that most people thought would never work. Written by Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, and Rick Moranis, it told the story of some unusual scientists who make a paranormal discovery that would transform New York into… You know what? You already know the plot. What really made this movie stand out was the comedy of Bill Murry, Dan Aykroyd, and all the other popular actors and comedians that filled the screen in every scene. It became the number one movie of the year, even beating out Indiana Jones!
But how could they ever follow up the success? The inevitable sequel came out 5 years later. When we find the boys this time, they are a little down on their luck. Luckily, an evil, possessed painting is going to put them back in business. Peter and Dana are no longer together and she even has a baby from a failed marriage. While this sequel didn’t match the success of the first movie, it was still a fun romp with the dead and we got to see that humor again.
What’s your opinion of the first two Ghostbusters films? What are your favorite parts of both? First person that emails me with the subject line, “I ain’t ‘fraid of no ghosts” will get a special mention on the show. Let us know. We knew the dame was trouble as soon as she walked into our office. That's probably what Jack Nicholson thought in Chinatown. We celebrate the 50th anniversary of one of the best written movies of all time on Enjoy Stuff!

What we’re Enjoying Jay grabbed a Marvel comic book series from 2011 called Legion of Monsters. It’s a riotous romp with classic comic monsters like Morbius, Werewolf by Night, the Living Mummy and Manphibian. Time to get spooky! Shua has been very busy, but has high praise for the 1970 documentary film Let It Be, all about the Beatles famous rooftop concert. After all the work Peter Jackson did on the Get Back series last year, they were able to restore the original and it looks great!
Sci-Fi Saturdays This week on Sci-Fi Saturdays Jay cultivated some red plants with the Spielberg version of War of the Worlds (2005). Tom Cruise leads up this modern day (and more accurate) telling of the classic 1898 HG Wells novel. It made for a much darker and realistic version people may not have been expecting. But we continue to be grateful that those Martians caught a cold. Check it out today! Make sure to play around with the interactive map on MCULocationScout.com. Plus, you can tune in to SHIELD: Case Files where Jay and Shua talk about great stuff in the MCU.
Enjoy Movies! Since Chinatown was released in 1974, it has held its spot on many lists of great screenplays. Written by Robert Towne and directed by controversial director Roman Polanski, it tells the story of Private Investigator Jake Gittes, who is hired to find out if a woman’s husband is cheating on her. But things get complicated quickly as Jake discovers that the man is a high ranking official with the LA Water and Power Company and is being paid to steal water during a drought. The corruption goes very deep and Jake is thrown into it much deeper than he ever imagined (pun intended)
This movie brings the audience along with Jake as he discovers the clues as they get more and more complex. I was a noir film, with some of the tropes that go along with that, but it defied expectations of characters and plot twists. Film classes still teach this film as an example of great writing and when you watch it through the lens of good cinema, it improves your experience tremendously.
Have you ever seen Chinatown? If not, stop here and go watch it. Now have you seen it? First person that emails me with the subject line, “Let me tell you what I think” will get a special mention on the show. Let us know. What we’re Enjoying Shua was very impressed with George Miller’s latest post-apocalyptic story Furiosa. Action, brilliant cinematography, and smart themes enhance this masterpiece. Plus, Chris Hemsworth leaves his heroic persona behind for a delicious demented villain. Jay is getting up, and down, with the current film version of The Fall Guy!
Sci-Fi Saturdays This week on Sci-Fi Saturdays Jay revisited the blockbuster conclusion of the Star Wars prequel trilogy, Revenge of the Sith. A lot has been written about George Lucas’s finale, but Jay has some additional thoughts you won’t want to miss. Check it out today! What we’re Enjoying Jay’s love for comics has led him to a new Marvel series by Garth Ennis about a captured Nick Fury who has to be rescued by Lt. Frank Castle. A wild action, war comic that brings back the feel of the past with the nuances of modern storytelling. Shua listened to an audible exclusive audio drama by actress Felicia Day called Third Eye. It’s her passion project about the magic world and how a ‘chosen one’ didn’t fulfill the prophecy of defeating evil, and is now living in shame. Comedy ensues with a star-studded cast.
Sci-Fi Saturdays This week on Sci-Fi Saturdays Jay got crazy with a wild Godzilla movie that celebrated the 5oth anniversary of the king of the monsters. Godzilla Final Wars (2004) shows the Earth valiantly fighting monsters everywhere, when aliens arrive too. Who, oh who, will save us? ….oh yeah… Godzill. Check it out today! Enjoy Summer! The season everyone anxiously waits for all year (until it gets here and they complain how hot it is) is finally here! Summer! As we grew up, we had all kinds of fun when school got out. Playing outside until the sun went down, then stalling until mom absolutely made us come in. We’d create games, find ways to stay cool, hang with friends, and so much more. Can we get back to those days? Or are they just a memory? Come with us as we explore the summer!

What we’re Enjoying Shua couldn’t contain his excitement for both IF and Unfrosted. IF is a very touching story about childhood and imaginary friends with tons of celebrity performances and a new, breakout star. Unfrosted was a hilarious interpretation of how Pop Tarts were created. Get out your toaster and Enjoy! Jay powered through another 5K on Memorial Day. Keep yourself fit and healthy and get out there and do something!
Sci-Fi Saturdays This week on Sci-Fi Saturdays Jay laid down the base coat with Primer. It is an artistic movie about time-travel that will blow your mind. This one is a thinker, and it pairs well with a brilliant article about the whole thing on Sci-Fi Saturdays. Check it out today! Make sure to play around with the interactive map on MCULocationScout.com. Plus, you can tune in to SHIELD: Case Files where Jay and Shua talk about great stuff in the MCU.
Enjoy Martians! Martians have been a go-to character for a very long time. Even in early literature from the mid 17th century, we saw evidence of our alien neighbors. And when the movies came around, our brothers-from-another-mother-world made for some cool sci-fi stories. Jay and Shua have put together a list of Martians, and other aliens, with clues to their movie or TV show of choice. Join us as we try to guess which ones made the cut.

What we’re Enjoying Jay sat down for a long, sandy movie marathon by watching Dune parts 1 and 2. Both create a truly gorgeous epic. Denis Villeneuve has created an amazing piece of art that tells Frank Herbert’s story in his own way. Shua was pleasantly surprised that Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes told a story that paid a lot of tribute to all of the Apes movies that have come before it.
Sci-Fi Saturdays This week on Sci-Fi Saturdays Jay is getting ready to rumble with Alien vs. Predator. Even after all this time, it proves to be a fun action packed monster vs monster story. But it wasn’t a totally original idea. Listen to us discuss the movie and then go read Jay’s article. Check it out today! Make sure to play around with the interactive map on MCULocationScout.com. Come back in time with us and celebrate the movies that honor World War II. Dramas, comedies, and even sci-fi and horror, there is no end to the stories that can be told and lessons that can be learned from this historical, international conflict.
For more than 80 years Hollywood has been making movies to tell the dramatic stories of World War II. As impressionable youth, Jay and Shua ate them up and still do. Let’s look at some memorable ones.
News Mark Hamill visits the White House Riddick will return in the 4th film in the franchise Cobra Kai 3 part event premiering July 18

What we’re Enjoying Shua was pleasantly surprised to find that The Fall Guy is a well made, action extravaganza. Ryan Gosling continues his winning streak of fun movies and Emily Blunt shows yet another side of her talent. Shua recommends! Jay was on the edge of his Imperial-made seat while enjoying the series finale of The Bad Batch. Dave Filoni kept us guessing as to the fate of our heroes, and by the end Jay thought it was a satisfying conclusion.
Sci-Fi Saturdays This week on Sci-Fi Saturdays Jay is pulling all the strings of the live action version of Thunderbirds (2004) with Bill Paxton. It may have not achieved the success and popularity of the bizarre 1960s marionette TV show, but it was a campy homage with some action and interesting interpretations. Check it out today! Make sure to play around with the interactive map on MCULocationScout.com. Plus, you can tune in to SHIELD: Case Files where Jay and Shua talk about great stuff in the MCU.
Enjoy Movies! There have been countless tales of World War II over the years. These stories recount bravery, determination, and heroism in a way unlike any other period of human history. Growing up, Jay and Shua gravitated towards a few classics such as The Great Escape, The Big Red One, and The Dirty Dozen. Plus, believe it or not, there can sometimes be humor in tragedy. Comedies like Steven Spielberg’s 1941, Mel Brooks’s To Be or Not to Be, and The Zucker Brothers’ Top Secret. There are always lessons to be learned and tragedy is often a great reminder to not repeat mistakes. So let’s all remember that, shall we?

What we’re Enjoying Jay is digging the retro vibes and modern day storytelling of the Disney+ series X-Men ‘97. Lots of great moments from Marvel’s mutant family with all the nostalgia of the original series. Shua recommends Mel Brooks’s autobiography “All About Me” which was released in 2021. If you listen to the audiobook, you can enjoy Brooks’s still hysterical delivery of the story of his life and career.
Sci-Fi Saturdays This week on Sci-Fi Saturdays Jay revisits the 2004 Will Smith futuristic vision I, Robot. Based on a series of stories by Isaac Asimov, it tells the story of a murder committed by a robotic personal assistant in a future that seems a lot closer today than it did in ‘04. And it examines the ethical conundrums of the dangers of AI. Check it out today! Make sure to play around with the interactive map on MCULocationScout.com. Plus, you can tune in to SHIELD: Case Files where Jay and Shua talk about great stuff in the MCU.
Enjoy Star Wars! We start off season 4 of Enjoy Stuff with a look at the adult side of Star Wars. Don’t worry, the kids won’t need to leave the room. Now that the OG fans are AARP fans, how has the galaxy changed perspective? There are a ton of things that are aimed exclusively to adults from jewelry to gaming. Some of our childhood hobbies have expanded into complex (and often expensive) pastimes. We try to answer the question “who is Star Wars really for?” and think we have a pretty good conclusion: Everybody, of course!
What kinds of adult Star Wars things do you do? Do you still gravitate towards the kids stuff? First person that emails me with the subject line, “Adulting Strikes Back” will get a special mention on the show. Let us know. What we’re Enjoying Shua has been Enjoying the apocalypse. Well, kind of. He’s enjoying the world of Fallout. The new series on Prime Video is based on the successful video games from Bethesda. It’s a 1950’s style world and nuclear war has laid waste to the world. It’s up to an out of place vault dweller, a surface misfit, and a ghoul to save everyone. Jay sat down and experienced Zack Snyder’s Grain Harvesters: Part Two–The Reaping on Netflix. Well, I guess most people would know it by the title Rebel Moon - Part Two: The Scargiver. The continuation of Snyder’s universe had a lot to get excited about. Action, special effects, deeper character development, and of course slow motion grain harvesting. Check it out and let us know what you think.
Sci-Fi Saturdays This week on Sci-Fi Saturdays Jay shuts off the lights and gets dark with The Chronicles of Riddick (2004) starring Vin Diesel. After a year of sci-fi that doesn’t feel very sci-fi, this was a nice return to outer space and futuristic action. Diesel was passionate about making it and it shows. Check it out today! Make sure to play around with the interactive map on MCULocationScout.com. Plus, you can tune in to SHIELD: Case Files where Jay and Shua talk about great stuff in the MCU.
Enjoy Music! It’s the end of Season 3! Enjoy Stuff celebrates by playing our favorite game, “5 Songs” Jay and Shua play each other 5 different songs that make them think of particular movies. Try to play along and guess what movies each song came from. But wait! There’s more to it this time. We have cut these clips down to as little as 1 sec. Will Jay and Shua be up for the challenge? What we’re Enjoying Jay took a trip to the great outdoors to enjoy Bald Eagle State Park. It’s always nice to enjoy nature and get away from the world for a bit. Shua watched Steve! (Martin) A Documentary in 2 Pieces. It was a great look at the life of this eclectic and talented comedian. You can find that on Apple TV+.
Sci-Fi Saturdays This week on Sci-Fi Saturdays shares the dark predictions of 2004’s The Day After Tomorrow. While all the science in this movie may not check out exactly, it does present a strong message about our climate and the state of our country’s attitude about the condition of the world. Check it out today! Make sure to play around with the interactive map on MCULocationScout.com. Plus, you can tune in to SHIELD: Case Files where Jay and Shua talk about great stuff in the MCU.
Enjoy the Future! Can we predict the future? Sure! Are we going to be right? Well…probably not. But we might get pretty close on a few things. That’s what the Usborne Book of the Future did back in 1979. It gave us a look at what they thought was going to be coming in the 21st century. You might be surprised to find out that they got a lot of things kind of right. From robots to cities to travel, we look at some of their more memorable predictions. Plus, Jay plays a game to see just what movies and TV shows predicted some things we have in our world today.

What we’re Enjoying Shua decided to check out something that keeps popping up on the Disney+ banner called Renegade Nell. It’s a period piece taking place in the 1700’s and it features Nell Jackson, who tries to do good by using some mysterious super powers. Jay found a different kind of team-up/crossover movie which may be considered a B movie (or maybe C-) It’s called Monster Mash but it’s not about a dance or breakfast cereal. Just imagine if monsters teamed up to fight against Dr. Frankenstein. It’s another example of crazy fun.
Sci-Fi Saturdays This week on Sci-Fi Saturdays Jay tries to remember an article that may have been erased from his memory. It was all about the 2004 movie Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. It seems like a great idea to erase bad memories from your mind, but it may cause more problems than it’s worth. This movie really makes you think about your life and your decisions. Check it out today! Make sure to play around with the interactive map on MCULocationScout.com. Plus, you can tune in to SHIELD: Case Files where Jay and Shua talk about great stuff in the MCU.
Enjoy Birthdays! This week we throw all the darts at the idea board to celebrate fun stuff for Jay’s birthday. We start off with a little game of David v. Keith x Keith v. David. And yes, it’s pretty much how it sounds. Next we discuss Jay’s complicated relation with the Smurfs. Yes, those tiny little blue things with the white hats that are always having to escape Gargamel even though they’re just trying to Smurf with their Smurfs so they can Smurf all the Smurfs on Smurf. Do you know the difference between Hot Wheels and Matchbox cars? We’re not sure we do either, but we try to break it down by looking back at our own toys. Next we play a few rounds of Geek Out to challenge our knowledge of a variety of geeky topics. Finally we come up with a list of some music that don’t just make you tap your feet, they tell whole stories.
Let’s all wish Jovial Jay a happy birthday! Which of our topics made you think of something? First person that emails me with the subject line, “Jovial Birthday Happy Jay!” will get a special mention on the show. Let us know. What we’re Enjoying Jay’s way IS the highway as he indulged in the rippling abs of Jake Gyllenhaal in Roadhouse. This is, of course, a remake of the 1989 Patrick Swayze classic. The modern day version has been updated, and is a bit more realistically violent, but also entertaining and action packed. Check out Roadhouse on Prime Video. Shua jumped hip-deep into the Kaiju footprint and experienced the latest Monsterverse movie where he discovered that Godzilla x Kong = Two Tons of Fun!
Sci-Fi Saturdays This week on Sci-Fi Saturdays Jay rediscovered another time travel movie with The Butterfly Effect. (2004) Ashton Kutcher plays Evan who has the ability to travel back to important times in his life and change things that happened. But he is surprised to learn how much even a little difference can change. Check it out on Retrozap.com. Make sure to play around with the interactive map on MCULocationScout.com. Plus, you can tune in to SHIELD: Case Files where Jay and Shua talk about great stuff in the MCU.
Enjoy Eclipses! April 8, 2024 will mark the date of a total eclipse of the sun in the United States. Eclipses are fairly rare, but nothing really fantastical or magical about them, just scientific. But that doesn’t mean you can’t use it as a cool motivator in movies. We look back at movies where an eclipse played an important role.
The moon will be covering the sun today, but after it’s over you’ll be able to enjoy other covers. Musicians often cover other artists' songs. And sometimes their version ends up being more popular than the original. We look at a few legendary ones.
But what could be more legendary than the best cover artist of them all; Weird Al Yankovic? Not all of Al’s songs are covers, but the parodies that are are excellent. Some are even better than the one they are parodying.
Are you in the path of totality? What are you covering today? First person that emails me with the subject line, “Never gonna give you up” will get a special mention on the show. Let us know. Come talk to us in the Discord channel or send us an email to EnjoyStuff@RetroZap.com

What we’re Enjoying Shua felt shivers as he watched Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire. Not just because of the chilling villain, but because of all the nostalgic feelings along with a bunch of new stuff to enjoy from the latest film. Jay was really pleased to discover that the comic series Hell to Pay by Charles Soule and Will Sliney was a unique and entertaining story. Worth checking out for sure.
Sci-Fi Saturdays This week on Sci-Fi Saturdays explored a time travel movie again with the 2003 Ben Affleck movie Paycheck. Based on a short story by Philip K. Dick, John Woo directs a movie about the consequences of seeing into the future. Though Jay feels the story is a bit padded, it did bring up some interesting thoughts about decisions. Check it out on Retrozap.com. Make sure to play around with the interactive map on MCULocationScout.com. Plus, you can tune in to SHIELD: Case Files where Jay and Shua talk about great stuff in the MCU.

Shua and his wife had a blast at a Star Wars burlesque show called The Empire Strips Back. Don’t take things too seriously, just have fun with it!

What we’re Enjoying Shua jumped on the bandwagon (or the sandworm) and saw Dune Part 2. It was every bit the epic spectacle everyone’s talking about. Action packed, entertaining, and visually stunning, he recommends it to anyone who loves seeing big-screen movies. Jay checked out another recent release, written by Diablo Cody and inspired by 80s movies. Lisa Frankenstein tells the story of a teen girl that raises a young, previously handsome corpse and romance ensues. It’s a fun one that feels new and old, which of course gets a TechnoRetro recommendation.
Sci-Fi Saturdays This week on Sci-Fi Saturdays Jay rounded out the Matrix trilogy by remembering Matrix: Revolutions. The third in the series gave us the fate of Zion, Neo, Agent Smith, and the rest. While presenting a different feel than the first two movies, after a rewatch it presents a fun and entertaining story. Read Jay’s insightful analysis and then rewatch the movie. Make sure to play around with the interactive map on MCULocationScout.com. Plus, you can tune in to SHIELD: Case Files where Jay and Shua talk about great stuff in the MCU.

What we’re Enjoying Jay finally got to the Disney+ documentary series Behind the Attraction. Season 2 has some cool inclusions such as Indiana Jones, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Disney Parks food. It’s not a boring documentary, and you’re sure to laugh as you learn a little more about the parks. Shua got around to the 2023 Netflix anime “Blue Eye Samurai”. It’s an action packed, graphic, adult story with plenty of Ninja-type action.
Sci-Fi Saturdays This week on Sci-Fi Saturdays Jay grudgingly analyzed the 2003 sequel that tried to keep a franchise alive but may have nudged it in the wrong direction. Terminator 3 didn’t quite have the some charm or quality of the first 2, but there are ways to Enjoy it, including skipping the movie and just reading Jay’s article instead. Make sure to play around with the interactive map on MCULocationScout.com, now featuring Daredevil Season 1. Plus, you can tune in to SHIELD: Case Files where Jay and Shua talk about great stuff in the MCU.
Enjoy Life! Spring is taking its sweet time getting here. And sometimes during a long winter we start to feel a little sad. Maybe a lot sad. We have taken those recommendations and made them appropriate to our lifestyle, sometimes with a retro twist.

What we’re Enjoying Shua found a cool YouTube channel that spotlights innovative 3-D printing featuring some really cool inventions by a guy named Ivan Miranda. A guy with a fun personality and some really brilliant solutions to crazy ideas. Jay has been rewatching the Daredevil series and is remembering why he loved season 1 so much.
Sci-Fi Saturdays This week on Sci-Fi Saturdays Jay revisited the sequel to the wildly popular Matrix original, Matrix Reloaded (2003). Despite the now dated innovative special effects, it was a really beautiful movie to watch that expanded the Matrix universe in a very unique way. Make sure to play around with the interactive map on MCULocationScout.com, now featuring Daredevil Season 1. Plus, you can tune in to SHIELD: Case Files where Jay and Shua talk about great stuff in the MCU.
Enjoy Movies! In 1984, Michael Douglas was getting into producing and had purchased a script from a waitress he met at Alice’s Restaurant (no, I’m serious!). He tried to get some very popular, handsome, macho actors to play the lead, opposite the up and coming Kathleen Turner. But ultimately he decided he’d just play the hero himself. With Robert Zemeckis at the directing helm, they set out to make a romantic adventure in the jungle. (But not really Columbia, because it was actually too dangerous) It became a gigantic hit that established Douglas as a strong leading man, put Turner on the road to a string of hits, and gave Zemeckis the ability to create Back to the Future.
Would you give the kidnappers the map or would you go after the jewel? Would you try to romance Joan Wilder? First person that emails me with the subject line, “El Corazon” will get a special mention on the show. Let us know. What we’re Enjoying Jay finally got his letter and is returning to Hogwarts. He has dove wand deep into a rewatch of the wizarding world of Harry Potter. So far it’s been magical. Shua turned on Pixar’s 2023 Elemental and then found a cool making-of video called Good Chemistry: The Story of Elemental, featuring the writer and director Peter Sohn. It had a lot of heart and gave some good insight of where the story idea came from.
Sci-Fi Saturdays This week on Sci-Fi Saturdays Jay watched The Core (2003) so you don’t have to. Check out his article breaking down this film that had potential, but just couldn’t fill the hole. Make sure to play around with the interactive map on MCULocationScout.com, now featuring Daredevil Season 1. Plus, you can tune in to SHIELD: Case Files where Jay and Shua talk about great stuff in the MCU.
Enjoy Time Travel! This Thursday we tack on an extra day to the calendar to catch up with the Earth’s orbit. 2024 is a Leap Year. So Jovial Jay and Shua decided to do a little quantum leaping of their own. We each chose 4 different years that we would visit if there was a little trash in Mr. Fusion. But there are rules to our choices. We are just experiencing these years. We can’t can’t change anything that happened. (We wouldn’t want the TVA on our tails) Check out the show to see why we picked the years we did, and think about how you would navigate the timestream.

What we’re Enjoying Shua seems to think he has too much time on his hands because he decided to tackle the entire MCU in timeline order. It’s a big commitment, but after the first couple handful of movies, he is still enjoying it! Jay jumped into a slightly smaller commitment by watching Kevin Costner’s 1990 epic drama Dances With Wolves. Tune in to find out what Jay’s Sioux name is.
Sci-Fi Saturdays The last couple weeks have given us two different movies you’ll want to revisit on Sci-Fi Saturdays. S1m0ne has an interesting take on AI and how it could be used in Hollywood. But revisiting this 2002 movie in 2024 gives it a whole different meaning. Plus, Jay breaks down the final Star Trek: The Next Generation movie Star Trek: Nemesis. It may not have been the best Star Trek film, but there were some pretty fascinating performances in it. Make sure to play around with the interactive map on MCULocationScout.com. Plus, you can tune in to SHIELD: Case Files where Jay and Shua break down each episode of the entire MCU.
Enjoy Presidents! As long as there have been movies, we have needed to have someone portray the United States Commander in Chief. A lot of times these leaders weren’t the ones we know from history. Instead, the actor or actress portraying them gets to come up with their own persona. So which ones stood out? What were some of our favorite fictional presidents that gave a good speech, or showed good leadership, or even kicked some butt and saved the day?

What we’re Enjoying Jay took Shua’s advice that the new Peacock streaming series Ted was worth the watch. He agrees. It is a funny (and raunchy) story of a boy and his bear. But Seth Macfarlane has given it a heart that really makes you think and care. Shua made his way to the movie theater and saw Jeffrey Wright’s newest film American Fiction. This story, about an author who is disgruntled about the stereotypes of blacks that are portrayed in modern literature.
Sci-Fi Saturdays This week Sci-Fi Saturdays shows you some Signs. M. Night Shyamalan’s 2002 alien thriller isn’t a Dead End. The plot seems to be going straight and then takes a Right Turn only and you have to Yield to suspense. Shyamalan’s Uneven Road of movies shouldn’t Stop you from revisiting Signs. Check it out on Sci-Fi Saturdays. He has also been updating locations from Marvel TV and movies, including Echo, the Agents of SHIELD, and Agent Carter series. Play around with the interactive map on MCULocationScout.com. Plus, you can tune in to SHIELD: Case Files where Jay and Shua break down each episode of the Echo series and more.
Enjoy Comic Strips! Peanuts, Calvin and Hobbes, Garfield…there are so many legendary comic strips that have appeared in the newspaper over the years. Originally intended to sell newspapers, their popularity soared and before too long there were dozens of artists making different varieties of comics. As they evolved we got comics that were silly, timely, political, and Pulitzer Prize winners.
Classic strips from the 50s, like Peanuts, Marmaduke, Dennis the Menace, and more are still published today, either in reruns (not Linus’s brother) or drawn by a new artist.
As the 60s and 70s brought change to the world, the comic pages started reflecting it as well. Timely topics were sometimes presented next to our Beetle Bailey. Pulitzer Prize winning Doonesbury by Gary Trudeau proved that the comics could be important. Spider-Man and Star Wars brought other formats of our entertainment to the comics pages.
And then we got a series of mega stars that blew up the popularity of that beloved illustrated section of the newspaper. Garfield, The Far Side, Bloom County, and Calvin and Hobbes became just a handful of reasons people would pick up the comics in the first place.
How well do you know your comics? Let’s play a game to see if you remember the punch line from the very first published strip from a few classics.
Now that newspapers are going the way of the Dodo, what does the future hold for our beloved strip format? We’re not sure, but we will continue to start the day with a laugh.
Did you grow up reading comics? What were some of your favorites (or ones you avoided)? First person that emails me with the subject line, “Let’s go exploring!” will get a special mention on the show. Let us know. Come talk to us in the Discord channel or send us an email to EnjoyStuff@RetroZap.com

What we’re Enjoying Shua was extremely and pleasantly surprised how incredible the new Seth Macfarlane Ted series is. Crude humor to be sure, but a ton of heart embedded within so many laughs. You can see it on the Peacock network. Jay explored another historical site in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania called the Gettysburg Diorama Museum. It’s a really cool recreation of the famous Civil War battle that gives you a very in-depth look at the soldiers who fought and died there.
Sci-Fi Saturdays This week on Sci-Fi Saturdays Jay knows what you’re going to do wrong before you do it because of his precogs. You can find them in the 2002 Steven Spielberg, Tom Cruise movie Minority Report. In addition to being an action packed sci-fi romp, it also had an interesting take on our future. Was it accurate? Check it out on Sci-Fi Saturdays. He has also been updating locations from Marvel TV and movies, including Echo, the Agents of SHIELD, and Agent Carter series. Play around with the interactive map on MCULocationScout.com. Plus, you can tune in to SHIELD: Case Files where Jay and Shua break down each episode of the Echo series and more.
Enjoy Movies! For more than 50 years Kevin Kline has been making movies in a variety of genres. From his stage beginnings he gave us the Pirate King in Gilbert and Sullivan’s Pirates of Penzance and showed off his musical chops.
He moved on to some dramatic roles and often starred alongside some other big names like Glenn Close, Jeff Goldblum, and William Hurt in movies like The Big Chill. And a western called Silverado with Kevin Costner, Scott Glenn, Brian Dennehy, and more.
That’s where he met John Cleese and they connected to make the legendary comedy A Fish Called Wanda with Michael Palin and Jamie Lee Curtis. He took home a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for that.
Romantic comedies, dramas, family films, and even cartoon voice overs. Kevin Kline has something for everyone.

Aliens have been a part of movies since we shot ourselves to the moon in 1902. They are the perfect tool for an allegory about our society. Whether our visitors from another world are benevolent or hell-bent on world domination, it's irresistible to sit back and watch. Jovial Jay and Shua test their knowledge of those cinematic extraterrestrials on Enjoy Stuff!
Grab your tinfoil hats and welcome signs as we look back at the history of aliens in movies.

Taika Watiti has given us a nice group of underdogs to root for with his typical brand of laughs too. Shua has been revisiting the Monsterverse Godzilla movies following his viewing of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters. It’s fun to watch our cities get smooshed.

Plus, you can tune in to SHIELD: Case Files where Jay and Shua break down each episode of the Echo series and more.
Enjoy Movies! Ack ack ack! Which means “We come in peace!” At least that’s what I assume those little green men are saying. Over the years, nay decades, nay CENTURY we have enjoyed exploring the possibilities of what other lifeforms could be out ….there!
And our imagination has covered the spectrum from friendly ETs who just want to share our Reese’s Pieces to Martians that just want to use us as fertilizer (well, I hope you got your vaccinations creeps!) What we’re Enjoying Timeless Heroes: Harrison Ford and Indiana Jones on Disney+ is a respectful look back at Ford’s career, with a significant spotlight on his most legendary character, Indiana Jones. Shua has been meaning to check this out, but he had no idea just how great it was going to be. Jay dove head first into the new Marvel series Echo. A different take on a Marvel hero and the first of the Spotlight series on Disney+.
Sci-Fi Saturdays This week on Sci-Fi Saturdays Jay explores a movie that was market more to a younger audience, but it is good fun for all ages. Clockstoppers (2002) tells the story of a teen that gets access to a watch that can slow time. There’s bad guys of course, and it’s up to the youth of the early 2000’s to save the day! Sounds simple, but it made for a good adventure.

Ray Harryhausen was the master of stop-motion animation, creating some of the most iconic fantasy movies of all time and inspiring generations of creators. Jovial Jay and Shua film one frame at a time as they look back at the work of this legend on Enjoy Stuff!
It’s time to indulge in some retro movies! These classics were brought to life through the genius of Ray Harryhausen and his creative creature design and animation techniques.
News John Williams, retire? Never! What we’re Enjoying Jay has been impressed with the new Percy Jackson and the Olympians series on Disney+. It’s a great adaptation that is true to the first book and seems to be creatively exploring the characters. Shua is listening to Conan himself narrate his own book. Arnold Schwarzenegger shares some motivational life tips with his new book Be Useful: Seven Tools for Life. You may be surprised how useful some of his tips are.
Sci-Fi Saturdays This week on Sci-Fi Saturdays Jay goes back (and forward) in time with the 2002 adaptation of the classic HG Wells story The Time Machine, starring Guy Pierce. Although some aspects are changed, it is a pretty good story with some surprisingly good themes. He has also been updating locations from Marvel TV and movies, including the Agents of SHIELD and Agent Carter series. Play around with the interactive map on MCULocationScout.com. Plus, you can tune in to SHIELD: Case Files where Jay and Shua break down each episode of the Hawkeye series and more.
Enjoy Movies! Don’t stop-motion believin’! In 1933 a 13 year old Ray Harryhausen saw the movie King Kong and it forever changed the way we would experience movies. It inspired him to experiment in techniques of stop motion animation that he would continually improve throughout his entire career.
His impressive resume includes classics like Mysterious Island, Jason and the Argonauts, and of course Clash of the Titans. Many of his movies aren’t even remembered for who starred in or directed them, but for Ray’s special effects. His patented Dynamation technique of incorporating his stop motion creatures enhanced all these movies in a way that made you feel like you were part of the dream.
Countless creators were inspired by Ray’s effects, such as Steven Spielberg, Terry Gilliam, Peter Jackson, Tim Burton, and of course the man who carried the mantle, visual effects legend Phil Tippett. Their movies continued to evolve Ray’s techniques including how CGI even works today. We are all indebted to Mr. Harryhausen and are grateful for his work.
Which of Ray Harryhausen’s works do you like? Have you ever made a stop motion movie? First person that emails me with the subject line, “Release the Kraken!” will get a special mention on the show. Let us know. Come talk to us in the Discord channel or send us an email to EnjoyStuff@RetroZap.com |
